The BBC offers some of the UKs most popular linear and online services – with more than 30m of the UK population accessing us online each week across BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds, BBC News & BBC Sport.

We are recruiting for a multi-skilled Data Analyst to join our Central Analytics team. In this varied role, you will work on exciting projects across the whole BBC Online portfolio to provide performance data and uncover customer insights that empower decision-making at the BBC. Working alongside an experienced team of analysts, you’ll play a key part in promoting analytics best practice and creating tools to encourage the use of data among stakeholders. The position sits in the Chief Customer Officer Group with a close relationship to stakeholders in other disciplines including areas like Research, Content and Marketing.

The role is offered as an 12-month contract. Upon completion, we’ll encourage you to apply for permanent positions in our division.

We will hold interviews for shortlisted candidates from w/c 27th March 2023.

Main Responsibilities
  • Delivering analysis and insights on usage of the BBC services and content to inform decision-making
  • Working collaboratively in cross-discipline project groups to improve the BBC’s data capabilities and develop new solutions
  • Creating and maintaining dashboards to empower stakeholders to self-serve with data
  • Building data automation processes and pipelines that bring 3rd party datasets into our systems
  • Providing technical expertise and acting as a first point of contact for analytics queries from non-data oriented colleagues
  • Developing your own analytics skills and keeping up to date with the latest industry developments
Are you the right candidate?
  • Degree in a STEM subject or equivalent experience
  • Some previous experience working in the data analytics field (e.g. previous role as a Data Associate)
  • Ability to use data to generate insights and recommendations
  • Understanding of and a willingness to learn one or more programming languages such as SQL, R or Python
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Pro-active attitude with a problem solving mindset
  • Team-player able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously

Desirable

  • Interest in and knowledge of the BBC services
  • Experience of using digital analytics data e.g. Google Analytics, Piano (AT Internet), Adobe Analytics or similar
  • Understanding of media analytics, data measurement methodologies and industry standards including online and offline channels
